Description
In Şile, with its ancient past, many historic monuments continue to stand the test of time. In addition to well-known structures such as Şile Deniz Feneri and Şile Ocaklı Ada Kalesi, the district also has fountains and bathhouses of historical value. The area also contains many Ottoman-era gravestones. FOUNTAINS Hanımsuyu Çeşmesi was commissioned in 1871 during the Ottoman period by an Egyptian woman named Hatice Hanım. Still used for drinking water today, the fountain is known as “Sweet Water.” Kabakoz Köyü Çeşmesi was built by the Byzantines 11 km north of Şile. This fountain has a history spanning exactly 600 years. It is in the bazaar on Üsküdar Street. It was commissioned as a charitable endowment by the Egyptian Hatice Hanım in 1871. It has 3 basins and two inscriptions above the basins on its western and northern sides. Its water is said to remain sweet because sugar was added to its reservoir when water was first supplied
