Description

The Sıbyan Mektebi building, one of Kağıthane's historic structures, was restored by Kağıthane Municipality (Kağıthane Belediyesi) within Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality (İstanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi – İBB) for use as a museum and library after many years of neglect and unauthorized occupation. Following approval of the measured survey, historical reconstruction and restoration plans by the Monuments Board, the physical work transformed the building and its surroundings into a functional, pleasant place. The building also houses İSMEK courses, and its Kağıthane Municipality (Kağıthane Belediyesi) City Museum and Information and Documentation Center section became a hub for compiling materials on Kağıthane's history. In addition to examples of historical artifacts found in the area, Kağıthane City Museum made historical photographs and documentation on the district's historic sites available to interested visitors.
